External Board Advisor

As an External Board Advisor; he supports in the areas of strategy, policy, risk, housing, market economics and financial markets.

Peter is a member of the Board of Directors for Trillium Housing, a non-profit developer of affordable homeownership housing, facilitated through a shared equity model. He is also Co-Chair of the Institute of Corporate Directors, Southwestern Ontario Chapter, which provides governance and management education for Boards and independent Directors. Previously, Peter served as a Director, and a member of the Audit Committee, Risk and Capital Committee, and Special Committee for an OSFI regulated TSX listed Trust Company.

Peter was a senior executive at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and a member of the Management Committee, the Human Resources Committee, the Pension Fund Investment Committee and the Asset and Liability Committee. Executive responsibilities included Securitization, Mortgage Insurance (issuance, marketing, default and real estate), affordable housing, social housing programs, federal/provincial housing, research, market analysis, and international programs. Key accomplishments included the establishment of the Mortgage Backed Securities and Canada Mortgage Bond programs, being Managing Director of Securitization through the financial crisis and providing liquidity relief through the Insured Mortgage Purchase facility, negotiating the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Programs, establishing the Housing Market Analysis profession and revamping the Surveys, and establishing the inaugural Healthy Housing Award program with the Builder community. Board and governance work included providing regular oversight, training, and guidance to more than 300 boards in the non-profit and cooperative housing sector, as well as regulatory liaison and policy setting for the securitization and mortgage insurance businesses.

He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors holding the ICD.D designation and the Canadian Securities Institute holding the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. University education includes undergraduate (BA honours) and graduate (MA) degrees in Economics.
